Gill has qualifications in Exercise to Music, Nutrition and Weight Management, Running, Salsafit, Core Stability, Pilates, Supple Strength, BETA, and is in training to teach Ballroom and Latin dance through the IDTA (having already completed the first part of her IDTA examinations in April), and will shortly be preparing for her Salsa international teacher qualification with Dance Vision. In addition, Gill has four children, and 1st class Psychology degree amongst other things.

What motivates you?

“I really enjoy teaching and helping people to realise talents they never knew they had. I hope I inspire and give confidence to others. Sometimes, I take a look at my classes in action and feel very proud of their achievements. I know all the staff feel just the same. This is such a rewarding occupation. In addition, I never stop learning, and I am constantly working on my own professional development. I just love it.

Surely dance and fitness is for young people?

"Not at all. You never know what you can do unless you try... and age is definitely no barrier. Although I have always been reasonably fit - holidays were always fell walking with the children, and I played a lot of league netball until I was 40 - I didn't start dancing until several years after this, and I can still do things that people half my age can't do, and with some measure of decorum and style. If I can do it, so can anyone. It is important to be aware of your limitations, but the range of activities I do keeps me very fit. I don't plan to retire, ever."

Gill's teaching skills are much in demand, particularly for her first dance wedding choreography. She instructs classes around all the counties in Aerobics and Toning, Solo Salsa, Couples Salsa, Basic Ballroom, Pilates & Running. She provides private lessons / one to one tuition in any activity that she instructs and will also choreograph dances for a special occasion for those believing themselves to be non-dancers (!), all at very reasonable prices. Please ask for details.

Gill is a Level 2 Member on the Register of Exercise Professionals.

Charity Runs

Gill has taken part in runs for Cancer Research and Race for Life in the past. On September 9th 2007, she will be taking part in the Sheffield 10km run for BUPA with two or more of her grownup children.

"My aim is not to finish more than 10-15mins behind my 30 year old son - not that I shall take it too seriously as my training will all have to be condensed into my so-called holiday time. I am keen to support my daughter (25) who will be running in her first race and has worked her socks off to get fit. I'll let you know our times".
