Experience Dance and Fitness- Medals & Exams

The primary aim of our Club is to encourage an enjoyment of dancing, whether it be for social reasons or for competition or examination purposes.

Many of our members have reached the stage where they would like to work towards some kind of goal, which will help them to improve their standard and to give them recognition for their efforts. There are many options from simple, non-technical exams, right up to the dizzy heights of professional exams. People usually start with either the One Dance or the Bronze Award.

ONE DANCE

This is as it states a beginners' medal in just one dance; it can be taken in the ballroom and latin sections. The choice of ballrooom dance is from Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Tango & Viennese Waltz. The choice of latin dance is from Rumba, Samba, Jive, Cha Cha Cha & Paso Doble (and Mambo, if especially requested). The standard expected is slightly lower than for the Bronze level awards. Candidates should show "reasonable footwork and timing". A minimum of 4 figures is required.

BRONZE AWARD

The Candidates will choose two dances from Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot & Tango (not Viennese Waltz) in the ballroom section, or Rumba, Samba, Jive, Cha Cha Cha & Paso Doble (and Mambo, if especially requested) if entering the latin section. You are  expected to produce a "sound presentation" of the dance, within your own capabilities (so there is no competition between individuals!). "Correct footwork, poise and timing should be evident". A minimum of 5 figures is required.

There are also SILVER and GOLD Awards, and more....
