Experience Dance and Fitness - About Us

Experience Dance and Fitness was set up in 2005 by Gill Lockett, a former Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Franchisee. The aim was to introduce more people to the joys of keeping fit especially through dance, but still continuing with fitness classes when required by the general public. Gill would describe herself as youthfully middle aged, and dancing and fitness certainly keep her looking and feeling young.

The classes are designed to keep everyone fit and healthy and the idea is that people work within your capabilities, stretching themselves sometimes a little beyond what they believe they are capable of doing. Our instructors are briefed so that they work to the same aims and ethos, so although they may have years of experience of dancing at a high level, they are able to adjust to help members develop their own skills at their own rate. Enjoyment is the key factor; skills and health are joint second factors as without health you can't show off your skills.

Experience Dance and Fitness started ballroom and latin dance classes at the beginning of 2007, and these are probably the most popular classes because they adhere to the rules of teaching beginners. Break down moves into very basic steps, take time and don't rush people into trying out extravagent moves when they haven't yet mastered the timing. They respond to individuals' needs and though the instructors have limited time to work with individuals they take our lead from the members and will adjust classes to suit the majority.

This is our aim - to help beginners grow in confidence in both dancing or fitness, and to instill a love of that activity that will stay with them throughout life and keep them fit. There is no doubt, that dancing and fitness is like riding a bike. If you don't do it for a while, you will become rusty but once oiled, the joints creak less and the legs will move freely because that is what they are designed to do.

We continue to offer new classes and locations in response to public demand, and we always welcome your ideas and comments.
